The Baton Rouge Police Department charged Dallas Joseph Standen, 22, for calling in a false tip about the double murder two Ph.D students.
Standed told the the LSU Police Department, WAFB Channel 9 News and CrimeStoppers the he and several of his friends were associated with the Dec. 17 shootings.
A task force increased its reward for information about the double homicide of two LSU graduate students Dec. 11. A private donor offered $4,000 to supplement the existing $1,000 reward.
Earlier in the week, Baton Rouge Police released sketches on Monday of men believed to be connected to the murders of Chandrasekhar Reddy Komma and Kiran Kumar Allam.
The campus remained open and finals went on as scheduled Friday the day after the homicide.
Authorities haven’t located the shooters — believed to be three young males who left the shooting location in a mid-size sedan.
Komma and Allam were shot in the head. According to reports, Komma — who taught a biology lab class at LSU — was bound by computer cord. Friends and colleagues remembered the two men as “fun-loving” and lighthearted.
