Very solid … very hard to meet expecations for a long-awaited release like this, but they may have done it.
To be honest, as much as I loved the first track “15 Step,” I thought they had gotten electronica out of their system, or at the very least Thom Yorke had after releasing “Eraser.”
What happened after “15 Step” surprised me, because “15 Step,” sounded like “Kid A” or “Eraser” overflow, while the rest of the record most certainly didn’t.
“In Rainbows” doesn’t spare the guitars the percussion, the orchestral arrangements that we have come to expect from Radiohead.
Lyrically, we have come to expect unabashed realism from Yorke et al., and in that respect I don’t think people will be disappointed as well.
Already I think they shouldn’t regret the decision to have reunited with long-time producer Nigel Godrich. This album is arranged far better than “Hail to the Thief.”
Obviously a Radiohead CD is alot to take in, I may change my mind completely in a mere 48 hours, but this is my initial response.
