48 Hours Mystery stops on campus this weekend with a story of a woman who allegedly conned her way into top universities and stole more than $100,000 in student loans.
Esther Elizabeth Reed went missing in 1999 from Seattle and is believed to have since assumed the identities of other women. Using their names, she landed at Harvard University, Columbia University and Cal State Fullerton.
One persona Reed assumed was that of Brooke Henson who went missing around the same time as Reed. Authorities want to question Reed about Henson’s disappearance. She is believed to have seduced military personnel, is sought by the Secret Service and thought to possibly be a spy.
The story will air on CBS Saturday at 10 p.m. eastern time.
The Columbia Spectator, The Harvard Crimson and The Daily Titan covered the story earlier this year.
