Police used tear gas to break up a party of 3,000-plus Michigan State University students early Sunday morning after police said the revelers threw bottles and other objects at the officers. Fifty-two students were arrested and other ticketed after partiers didn’t heed warnings to disperse.
The attempt by Michigan State University students to revive CedarFest, a traditional party that was banned in 1987, was condemned ahead of time by school officials. In recent years when the Michigan State men’s basketball team had made the Final Four, disturbances on campus led to riots, fires and numerous arrests.
