U. Michigan solar car team wins 2,400-mile race
Fifteen teams of students drove photovoltaic-powered cars across the North American Solar Challenge finish line in Calgary Tuesday, led by the University of Michigan Solar Car Team and its vehicle, Continuum.
Placing second was the car Ra 7 from Principia College, followed by the sole European finisher, the German FH Bochum Solar Car Team.

Solar Car team in 9th place despite clouds
UK’s Solar Car team made the cut last Thursday and began their race to Calgary on Sunday. After two days of qualification trials, the Gato Del Sol III was assigned the fifth position in the race.
The Gato Del Sol III is the product of UK engineering students and runs solely on solar power.

Northwestern U. to compete in North American Solar Challenge
After two years of designing and building, Northwestern University’s Solar Car Team has taken its fifth completed solar car to the North American Solar Challenge to compete in a 2,400 mile race from Plano, Texas, to Calgary, Alberta.
“It’s doing pretty well,” said Michael Awadalla, a Northwestern senior and the Solar Car Team’s Research and Development Chair. The group’s newest car, dubbed the SC5, was running Wednesday in 11th place out of 15.
