CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. — The good news: Despite obvious similarities, “Street Kings” is not “Training Day 2.0.” The bad news: “Street Kings” is nowhere near as good as “Training Day.” While each features cops gone wild amid rampant corruption, drugs, and bullets, a key ingredient is missing this time around: intelligence.

“21″ is a very stupid movie. It should have lived up to the expectations of people who actually care about Mezrich’s book, its characters and meaning. Alas, critics hated it.

This 90-minute “movie” centers around high school senior Donna Keppel (Brittany Snow), and surprisingly enough, her prom.

A creepy crawling horror flick, “The Ruins” documents a vacation to Mexico gone bad. The film adaptation of Scott B. Smith’s novel doesn’t quite do the book justice, but it still makes for a thrilling, and quite uncomfortable, film experience.

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — “The Ruins,” an uncommonly effective horror-thriller from first-time director Carter Smith, is the only film I have seen in my 21-odd years of life and two-odd years of semi-professional film criticism to ever elicit a physical response from me.
