WASHINGTON — “Jesus, Jack. Why 88 minutes?” That’s a very good question. One to which, quite frankly, I simply do not have a remotely positive answer. Let me put it another way: There are good movies, there are bad movies and there are even movies that transcend bad to become good again.

TUCSON, Ariz. — What compels a person to write on a bathroom wall? That’s the question Doug Rice’s self-published “From the Stall” sets out to answer. But there’s deeper, scarier stuff in these pages than Rice seems to realize.

MEDFORD, Mass. — The concept is really simple, totally ridiculous and absolutely brilliant. Strippers in an illicit Midwestern strip club suddenly turn into zombies in the long-overdue collision of two winning genres: zombie satire and porn.

This “Prom Night” is one you won’t care to remember. A remake of the 1980s film of the same name, this weak thriller is riddled with cliches and neither frightens nor entertains. Best to sit this dance out.

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. — Towering in his little chair and playing with straw wrappers, “Forgetting Sarah Marshall” writer and star Jason Segel was cracking a joke at every chance he could get. The actor boldly said that he was “born without a sense of shame.” For anyone who has been paying attention to the recent surge in the success of Judd Apatow comedies, Jason Segel’s lack of shame is certainly paying off.

KENT, Ohio — If you’ve got no place to go, why not go to the punk rock show? But this is no ordinary punk rock show. Pop-punk veterans MxPx are bringing their Karaoke Nights Tour to the Grog Shop April 24. For the entire show, two fans will do vocals for the band’s performance karaoke-style, but with the actual band playing with them.
