VERMILLION, S.D. — Though some say the Bible is clear on what it teaches, statistics say otherwise. In a 2005 Gallup poll, 49 percent of Americans believed it was acceptable for homosexuals to be members of the clergy, a seven point decline from 2003.

Living on-campus at the University of Connecticut has always meant same-sex housing, however a new pilot program introduced by ResLife this year is allowing some students to live with roommates of the opposite gender.

Several students gathered in front of Kaufman Auditorium last Friday to protest “Anal Sex 101: Everything You Wanted to Know (But Were Afraid to Ask),” an event that was partially funded by the Student Activities Fee.

Although Jack and Jill can’t live together on campus, Jack and John can — even if they are a couple. “We assign housing based on sex, not sexual preference,” said Gilbert Arias, assistant vice president of Student Affairs. “There is no way we would know that a gay couple has moved in together.”

Georgetown’s recent push to promote greater acceptance of the LGBTQ community on campus have come under fire from some Catholic organizations that say the endeavors run contrary to Catholic teachings.
