On Wednesday, more than 140 years after the 13th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution was ratified, the state Legislature passed a resolution apologizing for Florida’s role in slavery. We’ll just get the obvious out of the way first: It took lawmakers far too long to do this.

The fact that men are not going to college as much as women right now does not prove that there is a societal disorder. As a heterosexual male, I think it’s great that there are more women at UF, though I must admit that opinion has less to do with social justice than personal interest.

The Saginaw Chippewa Tribe isn’t asking for these remains and relics for no reason. These items have great spiritual and cultural value - it’s not as if these items are worth thousands of dollars. The University needs to do everything it can to decisively conclude whether these remains should be returned. There is no excuse for delay.

While the telephone conversation did reveal that the employee of Planned Parenthood was probably too eager to obtain a donation for the organization, it revealed little else about Planned Parenthood. Similar to NBC’s “To Catch a Predator,” the Advocate seemed to set the employee up to make comments that could later be used to incriminate Planned Parenthood.
