Many undocumented workers are paid under the table, often in cash, so they can only estimate how much they make. Economist William Ford of Middle Tennessee State University told the AP that there are undoubtedly hundreds of thousands of people who pay more than they owe.

As Americans everywhere send off their federal tax returns, a moment of reflection is in order over how their hard-earned dollars will be spent.

It seems like the NCAA has set a precedent it doesn’t want. It made rules for itself, and it broke them. Everyone knows, though, that the NCAA won’t be punishing itself. Why, then, should Indiana University — or any other sports program at other universities — have to abide by the NCAA’s rules?

It reflects a sad state of affairs when it takes a national tragedy for a state to reform its mental illness statutes, but sometimes officials need a wakeup call to act.

A UNL student organization, Ideas Have Consequences, held a student forum this week about evolution and intelligent design. We sincerely hope the forum, which was called “Darwin Meets Design,” is the last of its kind to be held at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

The degree of conjecture and rumormongering that the execution of the dean’s ouster has inspired is highly unattractive and does not become a community such as the one which Emory wishes to foster — one which seeks to promote openness and constant dialogue between students, faculty and the administration.
