Officials have launched an investigation into an electronic intrusion that has left University Health Services employees using pens and paper rather than computers for the past week.

The University of Chicago Law School has blocked wireless Internet access in most classrooms “in order to ensure the value of the classroom experience,” a press statement released by the school reported earlier this month.

As much as this election cycle is a TV saga of its own, it’s the viewers tuning in on the Internet who are turning its wheels. The Obama campaign, in particular, has capitalized on the strong tie between technology and youth.

A laptop recently stolen from a University of Virginia employee at an undisclosed, off-Grounds location contained sensitive information, including the Social Security numbers, of about 7,000 students, staff and employees.

The top 50 rankings were determined partly by “the attractiveness of cheerleaders, the locations of the schools (the sunnier the better — hot girls gravitate towards warm weather), and the popularity of tailgating/drinking/partying,” as well as “thousands of pictures,” but final decision came “mostly from the gut,” according to the Web site.

About 60 Boston University students turned out to hear RIAA representatives explain the tactics the group uses to discourage copyright infringement and prosecute violators and field questions last night.
